A Grandfather with a Heart of Gold

Papa, as we fondly called him, was more than a pastor to me, he was a grandfather with a heart of gold, a man of prayer, and a true example of Christ’s love. Some of my fondest childhood memories are from growing up in Ilorin, where we visited Papa and Momi almost every Sunday after church. Those Sundays were special because we looked forward to the delicious amala and ewedu with beef stew that Momi lovingly prepared for everyone. It was never just about the food; it was about the warmth, laughter, and love we always experienced in their home. What touched me most was how intentional Papa was. If we missed a Sunday, he would ask why he didn’t see us. That simple question made us feel seen, loved, and important. Papa’s life taught me that prayer is not just something we do, it is a way of life. His discipline, kindness, humility, and genuine care for people planted seeds that continue to grow in my life today. I miss those beautiful Sundays and the privilege of being loved by such an incredible man. Thank you, Papa, for the legacy of faith and love you left behind. Your impact will remain in my heart forever.
